Hello, friends. We meet again on this cheerful Monday. 🙂 I am still making bento for the coming Lunar New Year, and today’s bento features Peach Blossom (桃花). I made a ham and cheese sandwich for my son, and used crab meat, cheese and nori to make several peach blossoms flower on top of the sandwich.
The peach tree with its peach blossoms (桃花) is a standard decoration for the Lunar New Year. Peach blossoms are highly prized in Chinese culture and because they appear before a single leaf has sprouted, the ancient Chinese believed the peach to possess more vitality than any other tree.
Other than the peach blossoms, there are three pineapples in the box too, which made of sausage and lettuce. Pineapple (黄梨) in Teochew dialect sounds like ‘Wang Lie’ (旺来), which means imminent luck. The Chinese, being staunch luck-chasers love pineapples and love to use pineapple lanterns for decoration as well as for praying during Lunar New Year.
To make these pineapple sausages, first, cut sausage diagonally and put them into boiling water to cook (you can pan fry the sausages too). Then, cut a small hole at one end of the sausages, put in the lettuce with the help of a chopstick. 🙂 As simple as ABC, right? Hehehe…
Put in some black grapes in the bento and a bunny pick to complete the bento. Hope this peach blossom bento will brighten up your Monday and starts the week with joy and happiness!! Cheers!!
