爱。开心便当のInari flower pots

February 25, 2011

This was yesterday bento for my son.  I bought a pack of inari last few weeks…and again…need to use it before it went expired..haha.   I filled the inari pockets with two different colored rice, yellow and green.  Then, I made some two flowers from sausage stripes and two from cucumber stripes.  Put these flowers on the top of the inari sushi and put in the heart and leaf picks to make the inari sushi as flower pots.

There were some tamagoyaki and grapes in the the bento and a cherry tomato to brighten up the box. 🙂

Wishing everyone have a great weekend ahead.  ^^

爱。开心便当のMeat floss crepe sushi

February 22, 2011

Good day, my friends!! 🙂

I bought a pack of ready-to-eat crepe weeks ago and was thinking to use it to make some sushi roll for son’s bento.  But then, because was busy with the Lunar New Year celebration, I had forgotten it and left it inside the fridge. I will need to finish it before it went expired …hehe.  Here’s the ready-to-eat crepe…

Just like making normal sushi roll…I put the crepe on the sushi rolling mat and layer a piece of nori on top. Then, gently spreading the rice equally on the nori.  Put in the meat floss and start rolling the sushi until it form a sushi roll and cut it into 6 small sushi…that’s all for a simple meat floss crepe sushi. 🙂

I have included some broccoli, cherry tomatoes and grapes to complete the bento.

Here’s the sushi before putting in the bento box…

Have a great Tuesday!! Cheers! 🙂

爱。开心便当のPink bunnies sandwich

February 17, 2011

Happy Chap Goh Meh (元宵节快乐)!!! 🙂

Son no need to go school today, so I have made him this pink bunnies sandwich bento yesterday.

Chap Goh Meh represents the fifteenth and final day of the Lunar New Year period as celebrated by Chinese communities. The term is from the Hokkien dialect and refers to the fifteenth day of the first month, which is the occasion of the first full moon of the New Year.

The occasion is marked by feasting and various festivities, including the consumption of tangyuan (汤圆) and Kue Keranjang. In traditional Chinese culture, it is also celebrated as the Lantern Festival or the Shang Yuan Festival. In Southeast Asia, however, it coincides with the Chinese Valentine’s Day.  It is also when young unmarried women gather to toss tangerines into the sea, in a hope that their future spouse will pick it up – a custom that originated in Penang, Malaysia.  In the past, this was also the only day that unmarried ladies could be seen with their partners.

In order to celebrate both occasion, I made this pair of bunnies which is suitable for Lunar New Year together with the Chinese Valentine’s Day.  I made a pork jerky sandwich and on top of it I used pink egg sheet, nori and cheese to make the bunnies and the pink hearts .

Other than the bunnies, they are sausage pineapples, mini sausages tangerines and a pear in the bento.

Have a joyful Chap Goh Meh and Happy Chinese Valentine’s Day. 🙂

爱。开心便当のLoving Cats

February 14, 2011

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! 🙂

A quick post today for Valentine’s bento…loving cats.  I put a layer of seaweed on the top of the rice.  Then, cut a round cheese as the moon and placed on top of the seaweed.  The black cat was cut from nori and the yellow cat was cut from cheese.  Those pink color heart are actually sugar decoration hearts.  Both the cats were sitting on a wooden bench (a piece of pork).

Other goodies in the box: pork with leek, choy sum, cherry tomotoes, apple and grapes.

Wishing everyone has a great Valentine’s celebration, Happy Valentine’s Day (情人节快乐).  🙂

爱。开心便当のValentine’s Day Gift

February 11, 2011

Valentine’s Day is coming very very soon…I am sure many couples are thinking and searching of Valentine’s gift for their loved ones.  This is the headache job for me to find a suitable git for my husband too…hehe.   But, there are two common gifts which most of the guy will give to the girl…a gift and a bouquet of roses. 🙂

Today’s bento will be about these two things, a gift and a bouquet of roses. I used yellow color rice seasoning mix to color the rice into yellow and made it as a gift box with the pink color egg sheet ribbon.   Then, I made a bear from a quail egg and decorated it with nori for the facial details.  But..I feel like this bear  look more like a piggy..heheh..How about you? 😉

After that, I used some sausage stripes to make six roses and included some lettuce to make a bouquet of roses with two heart shape balloons (food picks).

Other goodies in the bento are chicken nuggets, heart shape prawn sausage, broccoli, pink flower made of egg sheet and grapes.

Do you spotted a diamond ring in the box too??  Yah…a diamond ring is hidden in the middle of the grapes…hehehe…but not a real diamond…it is just a sticker food pick, just to give some “sparkeling light” to the bento. 🙂

Happy Friday and have a great weekend ahead!! Cheers! 🙂

爱。开心便当のBEE Mine

February 9, 2011

Hi friends!!! 🙂

After one week Lunar New Year breaks…we back to normal routine life, and I am back to bento making life too…heheh…

Another four days to Valentine’s Day, therefore I start my bento today with this lovely Valentine’s Day theme bento, BEE MINE… 🙂

I use some rice seasoning mix to color the rice to purple color and placed the rice in the lower tier of the box.  Put in one pair of bees couple on top of the rice.  To make the bees…I boiled the quail eggs the put them into the yellow color water to color them with yellow color.  Then, cut some tiny stripes from a piece of nori and circle around the eggs, put in the eyes and mouth of the bees from nori too.   I used two pairs of green leaves food picks as the wings of the bees.  The heart shape trail were made of black sesame seeds and the words “BEE MINE” were cut from crab meat.

On the upper tier of the box, I have included some fried chickens, broccoli, grapes, mandarin orange and three cucumber flowers.

I bought this 2-tier box while shopping at the hypermarket yesterday.  The amount of food that can fit into the box is just nice and enough for my son…so decided to use it this morning, although the cover image is not so suitable with the theme…heheh…
